Magical Art Makeovers with MidJourney’s Retexture Tool

What if your childhood doodles got a glow-up? Or your latest masterpiece took on a whole new personality? That’s exactly what I’ve been exploring with MidJourney’s retexture feature, and let me tell you—it’s been a creative joyride! This magical tool takes your artwork and gives it a makeover, transforming it in incredible ways. Check out these original and reimagined works.

From Toddler Art to Creative Masterpieces

I dusted off two of my childhood drawings from when I was around age 5 and fed them into the retexture feature. What came out? Pure magic! The AI gave these innocent little drawings a new twist that had me laughing and marveling at the same time.

The girl is so adorable and fun! All it took was a bit of experimenting with some of my favorite MidJourney style reference codes to get this look.

The second character is hilarious. MidJourney nailed most of it, but I had to use PhotoShop to add the belly button, hook claws, and starburst eye. This guy is either singing or howling in surprise.

Add Depth to Old Drawings

I then dug up two drawings from my early 20’s and let the tool work its wonders. It turned my flat colored pencil drawings into in-depth detailed scenes.

This fantastical sea serpent world took just a few iterations of retexturing output, followed by some tweaking in PhotoShop.

Same thing for this coyote howling at the moon; just a few iterations of retexturing output, and one minor tweak in PhotoShop.

Giving New Life to Recent Creations

Next up: my recent artworks. I decided to shake things up by reimagining a couple of my more recent works in different styles. The transformation? Jaw-dropping.

My acrylic painting of whimsical skeleton creature came to life with a button click. I had so much fun with this one, generating different realistic photo styles, and settled on this one as my favorite.

Imagine running into this creature at the beach?

With another button click, one of my simple pastel sketches transformed into a fun cartoon.

Another fun retexture transformed two of my paintings into a stuffed animal. It’s like my imagination came to life in a most huggable way. They are so adorable. The tool didn’t match the right colors quite right. I could try to spend more time refining the prompts to get the colors right, but I think they are cute enough as is.
