A playful take on the American alligator, whose grin invites a story of its own.

This piece captures the playful side of an American alligator, complete with a mischievous grin. His expression invites you to imagine what he is thinking, and what kind of swamp shenanigans he might be planning.

While working on this drawing, the chest scales reminded me of a brick wall, each one fitting together like weathered stone. In reality, an alligator’s belly scales are much softer and more flexible, unlike the hard, bony plates that protect the back and tail.

Even with all that thoughtful design, it is that grin that steals the scene.
