A barred owl glides through the misty morning air, moving with effortless grace as the woods begin to stir.
I woke early one morning, just as the light was beginning to break. As I walked across my kitchen, I made a small wish that I might see something amazing outside, knowing wildlife can be especially active at that time of day.
As I reached the sliding doors, I saw it—a huge barred owl gliding across my backyard. Breathtaking. I was instantly filled with gratitude. Thank you, Universe, for granting my wish with such a magnificent sight.
Although I haven’t glimpsed an owl again, I often hear them nearby. A mating pair has lived in my neighborhood for the past several years. During my strolls, I sometimes hear their calls echoing through the trees. It’s fascinating that they both mimic the exact same call, yet one answers with an extra rolling “purr” at the end.
Over the years, I’ve seen a wide variety of wildlife in my backyard. Each sighting is special, but that morning owl ranks as one of my favorites.
This charcoal drawing is inspired by that unforgettable moment.
