Hot Tub Frogs

For the third year in a row, gray tree frogs have made themselves at home under our hot tub cover.
They arrive in early spring and stay until late autumn.

They rest under the cover during the day, tucked into the same little corner, then head out at night to hunt. It’s the perfect hideout. Safe, shaded, and apparently very comfortable. We usually don’t use our hot tub during the day, so it works out perfectly. When we use it at night, they’re typically gone.

For the past two years, we occasionally lift the cover for a peek during the day, and find a single frog relaxing in that same spot. This year, we were surprised to find two smaller frogs instead. We imagine they are the offspring of our previous visitor.

We lift the cover carefully. We lower it gently. We try not to disturb them. They’ve picked their spot, and we’re happy to share.

Enjoy some footage of our friends:

On the weird side, the frogs are not the tidiest creatures. They sometimes leave behind little gobs of… bright blue slime. Or dark slime. We still don’t know exactly what it is. But we clean it up and carry on. It’s just part of having frog roommates.
